About the English Cocker Spaniel

The English Cocker Spaniel is a cheerful, affectionate sporting dog originally bred in England for flushing and retrieving game birds. Known as the “merry cocker,” this breed combines elegance with a playful, people-loving personality.

Origin & History

  • Developed in the United Kingdom as part of the spaniel family
  • Bred specifically for hunting woodcock (hence the name “cocker”)
  • Closely related to the American Cocker Spaniel, but generally larger and more athletic

  • Weight: ~13–15 kg (28–34 lbs)
  • Height: ~38–43 cm (15–17 inches)
  • Coat: Silky, medium-length, often wavy
  • Colors: Black, golden, liver, parti-color, roan varieties
